About
The Thomas E. McMillan Museum features displays of historical, archaeological and cultural south Alabama artifacts, which give a glimpse into the entire region's past. The exhibits illustrate native American, French, English and Spanish colonists, and the early 1800s (the Andrew Jackson era), all of which directly influenced the cultural heritage of Escambia County, southwest Alabama and northwest Florida. The museum is located on the Brewton campus of Coastal Alabama Community College.
What to expect
The McMillan Museum of Natural and Cultural History of Escambia County, Alabama was founded in 1979 to chronicle life in the county. From 10,000-year-old fossils (and older) to a fireside popcorn popper, a doctor's bag and a display of cameras, the museum has something to interest most anyone!
It is perhaps the least known of our area's treasures. Funded privately, the museum stands alone in the region with its displays of historical, archaeological, and cultural South Alabama artifacts.
If you live in the surrounding area, including in Florida, the museum offers you a glimpse into the entire region's past with displays illustrating native American, French, English and Spanish colonists, and the early 1800s, all of which directly influenced Escambia County.
The McMillan Museum is one of the region's finest places to learn of local history. If you have never visited the McMillan Museum and its adjacent partner, the Escambia County Historical Society's Alabama Room, you owe it to yourself to make a point to make the short drive. You will be pleasantly surprised at what you will find.
Hours
Regular hours are Tuesday and Thursday, 9 am until 3 pm. Other hours may be available upon request.
There is no admission fee; however, donations to either the museum or the historical society - or both - are accepted.
